Our History

1988

101 Collins Street is a joint venture between SFIT Property Funds and Kern Corporation Limited. Architects Denton Corker Marshall together with American consultants Johnson Burgee, designed the building.

1989

The model of 101 Collins Street is unveiled by the Victorian Minister for Planning and Environment, the Honourable Tom Roper MP.

1990

The 101 Collins foyer was designed to be 5,400sqm – the length of half a city block, from Collins St to Flinders Lane.

1991

The last section of the wall of the former CRA building is reduced to rubble by a bulldozer operated by the Victorian Minister for Planning and Environment.

1992

The core construction creates column-free spaces, allowing for larger floorplates. The unique floorplan provides up to 12 corner offices, and floors are serviced by a total of 30 lifts.

1993

A grey granite curtain wall is hung on the tower’s façade, giving the impression that the building has been carved out of a single block of stone.

2008

Peter Calwell joins 101 Collins St as General Manager. For the last 15 years, Peter has kept the building running smoothly, ensuring it is not only fit for purpose but continues to exceed expectations into the future.

2016

Vertical solar panels installed, followed by solar for DHW ultra high rise in 2022. Today, 101 Collins has a 4.5 Nabers rating, using 23% green energy.

2020

The opening of RISE sees 101 Collins’ transition from workplace to wellness space, helping to put work and life into perfect balance.

2022

101 Collins receives a WiredScore Platinum rating for its cutting-edge digital technology.

The handprints of the original stonemasons who erected the columns in 1990, Nosta, Gary and Tony, were discovered during the removal process as part of the lobby evolution. They have been repurposed into tables in the Sanctuary Garden.

2023

In partnership with architecture practice Bates Smart, the Ground Floor is completed. Featuring breathtaking spaces to gather, rest and discover groundbreaking national and international art, the Ground Floor evolution ensures 101 Collins continues to set a cultural, commercial and architectural benchmark and provide an unrivalled experience for tenants and guests.
