Electrification

One of the biggest challenges facing the property sector is decarbonisation.

Decarbonisation is the process of significantly reducing or eliminating carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere.

Every decarbonisation strategy will look different but for our industry to reach zero carbon they should all have one thing in common – electrification.

Natural gas typically represents between 10% and 30% of a building's greenhouse gas emissions.

The most common use of fossil fuels in commercial buildings are gas for space heating, domestic hot water and cooking, and diesel for generators.

In our journey to electrification, we have replaced gas and diesel with technology that uses electricity as a source of energy such as heat pumps and induction cooking.

This enables the building to be powered by renewable electricity.

As of July 2024, 101 Collins Street is 100% electric. There are many benefits to electrification. One of the most impactful however, is its contribution to climate change mitigation. Data from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water shows buildings account for around 19% of total energy use and 18% of direct carbon emissions in Australia.

NABERS Ratings

NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) provides simple, reliable, and comparable sustainability measurement you can trust across building sectors like hotels, shopping centres, apartments, offices, data centres, and more.

A NABERS rating helps you to accurately measure, understand, and communicate the environmental performance of your building while identifying areas for cost savings and future improvements.
