Benefits of Pilates for Corporate Workers

Wellness // September 2024 Benefits of Pilates for Corporate Workers
RISE customers are loving Pilates, and it’s no surprise given the many benefits Pilates can provide for the corporate worker. Keep reading to find out our top 5.

Improved posture and ergonomics

Every Pilates class is crafted to encourage optimal alignment, increase mobility and improve muscular endurance. Learning your body’s optimal alignment in class can help you find your ideal posture in a number of settings, including at your desk. Many of our classic and modern Pilates exercises target joint mobility, muscle flexibility and strength. In an office setting, this allows you to sit or stand a little taller, for longer periods of time without muscular fatigue and pain.

Stress relief

Pilates utilises breathing techniques that can downregulate your “fight-or-flight” nervous system, which can lower cortisol levels and overall stress. Exercise also releases feel good hormones called endorphins that can improve our mood and overall wellbeing. We love seeing our customers finish a Pilates class with a big smile and feeling more relaxed than when they walked in.

Improved productivity

Concentration is a key principle of Pilates and teaches us to connect our body and mind, become present and attentive. Not only does this strengthen our Pilates practice, it flows into everyday life. Improving concentration through Pilates teaches us to tune in to the task at hand and tune out distractions. In a corporate setting, better concentration and focus improves both productivity and efficiency at work.

Reduced risk of workplace injury

Pilates can reduce injury risk through improved muscular endurance and movement quality. Pilates emphasises slow, controlled movements in which our muscles are under tension for an extended period of time. This time under tension improves muscle endurance and our ability to manage the load placed on muscles in daily life. Many workplace tasks involve repetitive movements, such as typing, turning your head between multiple screens or simply maintaining an upright posture. By improving the capacity of our muscles to withstand these demands, we can reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries.

Team building and connectedness

Our Pilates classes are a great way to connect with your colleagues outside of the office. Group classes provide a relaxed setting for employees to interact outside of their usual work roles, strengthening relationships. Shared experiences in a non-work setting can break down barriers and improve overall team dynamics. Why not bring a friend with you to your next Pilates class at RISE?

At RISE we offer private company Pilates classes so you and your team can experience the benefits of Pilates in a fun and relaxed environment. To learn more, contact rise@101collins.com.au
