The Plug

Culture // September 2024 The Plug
In this special edition of The Plug, we’ve pulled together a list of some of the newest hotspots around Melbourne.

Tombo Den

100 Chapel St, Windsor VIC 3181

Why the Plug?

Chris Lucas’ latest venture nabs a spot on this list purely because of the popularity of every single on of his restaurants.

Despite only having first opened on September 7, the restaurant’s appearance on Instagram feeds has been immense.

The immersive Japanese-inspired sake bar and restaurant boasts a 26-seater sushi bar and Karaoke lounge emanating the atmosphere of late-night Tokyo.

Reed House

130 Londsdale Street, Melbourne VIC 3000

Why the Plug?

The chefs behind this cosy CBD restaurant are no strangers to success.

Having worked under Yotam Ottolenghi in London and at The Everleigh and Capitano back in Melbourne, owners Mark Hannell and front-of-house pro Rebecca Baker used their life savings to open this spot.

Fit with homely fireplaces and a private dining space, the restaurant’s menu plays on “old-school British recipes”.

Elio’s Place

Shop 1, 238 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, VIC 3000

Why the Plug?

An all-day European inspired bistro on Flinders Lane? That was more than enough to hook me.

The siblings behind this new bistro have lured the head chef behind Bar Liberty and Capitano over to their latest venture.

With 2 separate menu’s – one for Breakfast and one for Lunch and Dinner- the bistro is a homage to the siblings’ late father.

Ronin Omakase

445 Little Collins Street, Melbourne

Why the Plug?

This 10-seater traditional Japanese restaurant is one you’ll want to book well in advance. Set in an elegant, minimalist and inviting space, Ronin Omakase masters the 13-course menu which differs on a daily basis. Despite serving traditional Japanese, the chef takes inspiration from cuisines such as Italian and Malaysian.
